Because it is a romantic story
This is not money or material things ..
I was happy with Jack and he was on the floor of the ocean, if at the end of the story that gave his heart to the center of the neck of the ocean in the sea :-)
Maybe he did not have much use, because it almost is not willing, or perhaps on his deathbed, if he belongs to bottom, with the remains. These are just ideas at the top of the head can help.
